President’s Message – Term 1 Reflections and What’s Ahead

As we come to the close of Term 1, it has been a pleasure to reflect on a vibrant and meaningful start to the year for the Old Peninsula Grammarians’ Association and our wider alumni community.

Foundation Day was a particular highlight. The occasion beautifully captured the spirit of continuity that defines our community, marked by Warwick Barton cutting the 65‑year commemorative cake. We were also delighted to welcome six Foundation and Early years alumni who proudly served as House flag bearers. Their participation was a powerful symbol of the passing of traditions across generations, and a reminder of the enduring bonds formed through the School.

Another special occasion this term was the Penturion Club lunch, which brought together guests from the Class of 1976 and earlier. Celebrating 50 years since leaving school, the afternoon was filled with stories, laughter and a shared appreciation of lifelong friendships. It was heartening to see such strong engagement among our most longstanding alumni.

We also saw success with the OPGA Connecting Careers Day. Over 40 alumni generously returned to Peninsula to share their experiences and insights with our senior school students. Their willingness to speak openly about career journeys, pathways and opportunities played an important role in broadening students’ thinking about the many possibilities available to them beyond the school gates.

Looking ahead, I encourage all members of our community to consider submitting Hall of Fame nominations, which close on 30 April — please get them in before it’s too late. Inductees will be announced during Term 2, and we look forward to celebrating those alumni who have made outstanding contributions in their fields and to the community.

We are also eagerly anticipating a number of upcoming reunions:

Ticket links for the 1 Year (17 Oct), 5 and 10 Year (24 October) reunions will open soon too, and I encourage you to reconnect with classmates and secure your place once registrations go live.

Thank you to all those who have contributed to OPGA activities this term. Your continued involvement strengthens our community and ensures the legacy of Peninsula remains strong across generations. I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events throughout the year.
